Zombie Walk Roppongi March 31

Roppongi hosted a Zombie Walk on the 31st of March.  Who can resist the sights, the sounds and the stench of the living dead stumbling through Roppongi?  I couldn't.  Now all I have to say about this little spectacle is that one of the zombie organisers got a little bit precious about me taking photos, and got rather aggressive (for a Japanese person that is) about finding out whether I was a professional photographer or not, and what I was going to use the photos for.  If that sort of thing worries you, its probably best that you don't march folk around town dressed up as zombies and advertise the fact, because that's exactly the kind of thing that people who like taking photos will shoot.  And insulting a foreign photographer in Japanese for laughs is a. racist and b. not such a good idea when the photographer in question understands enough about what you're saying.  Because he may know Japanese words like abazure, but just be too polite to use them.
Having said all that, everyone else seemed to be having fun, with some zombies getting well into the spirit of things.
If anyone has any legitimate issues with these pictures being posted here (for zero profit on my part. I make no money from this blog.  I don't have outside advertising on my blog, just projects of my own), then get in contact with me and we'll sort it out.  Until then, enjoy the show.

Melt Banana Roppongi Super Deluxe 29th March

Having only been recently introduced to the special sonic madness that is Melt Banana, I'm not terribly knowledgeable about avaunt-garde weirdo music.  But I did get into the energy I heard from Melt Banana, and had the chance to catch them in Roppongi at Super Deluxe.  Melt Banana is now fairly stripped down, in that there's Yasuko on vocals and Ichiro on guitar, and drum and synth machines.  But it was a good chance to check out something a bit different (for me).

First up, Miila and the Geeks, with a stomping bass player

Limited Express (has gone?) is a suitably out there name for a band

Mirror Ball Interlude
US band Moon Duo, who sounded rather like Hawkwind circa the '80's or the '90's to my ear, were a pleasant surprise.  They sounded a bit repetitive and simplistic at first, but I got into the groove, and was glad I caught them live.  Thoroughly enjoyable.

Melt Banana's substitute drummer/keyboardist.
Lighting was tough for this gig (being arty and weirdo), but the frenetic energy of Melt Banana live was irrepressible.

Japan Bonus Level

Here are some more photos I took over in Japan on my recent visit.  All of the photos taken were in Tokyo, unless otherwise stated.  It's a random mix of images, presented with no other thematic
relationship, other than being from Japan.  Enjoy.

Icicles in Gunma, not far from the onsen (hot springs resort) where we stayed.
No, not London, as you may have guessed from the double-decker bus, but Roppongi, just in front of Midtown.
Roppongi Crossing, with a sparkle filter.
 Kabuki-cho, Shinjuku
This Onsen (hot springs resort) is the Shima Onsen in Gunma Prefecture (100 kn north-west of Tokyo).  This 80 year old onsen is serviced by a 320 year old ryokan (Japanese inn).  More recently, it served as one source of inspiration for the bathouse in Sen to Chihiro no Kami Kakushi (Spirited Away), the Studio Ghibli anime masterpiece from Hayao Miyazaki.
Snow and an Ishi-Doro (Stone Lantern) in Gunma
 Chochin (Paper Lanterns) in Shinjuku
The Spider sculpture and the Mori Building, Roppongi (Roppongi Hills).
Underground walkway leading to Shinjuku station, the world's busiest train station. (An average of 3.64 million people use Shinjuku station daily)
 Above some train lines, Shinjuku
Ghost footprints, Shibuya, near Shibuya Crossing.
 Kiosk, Shinjuku station
 Vending machine, Shinjuku station
Sweets are raised to an artform (Shinjuku station)

The Tokyo Kokusai Forum (International Forum), Yurakucho, near Tokyo Station.
