The 19th annual Victorian Underground Mine Rescue Competition was held in and around my hometown this weekend just gone, and I was lucky enough to be invited along with other photographers to photograph the event. I was able to photograph the Stawell team as they attempted a simulation rope rescue event for the competition held at the Fosterville Mine in Central Victoria. It was my first time in a large mine, and it was a great event to capture.
The team inspecting their gear before going in
In the mine and unloading the gear
Planning for the simulated rescue
These tunnels are big enough to drive around in
Opening the shaft cover
The rescuer descends
The tension builds. (The teams are racing against the clock in this event)
Hauling up the 'victim'
And she's safe
Some of the trophies available for the competition awards ceremony
8 dirty guys in a hole - and they sent in pedro with a camera. What could go wrong?
ReplyDeleteKinda like a party held down a mine after he stole a con from Adelaide - just with more booze and less rescuing :-)
I would like to thank Lucastas for his advance exerpt from his upcoming autobiography, 'I, Lucastas'. The excerpt is from the chapter entitled, 'How we gave Adelaide the Shits'. Available at all good mineshafts and on all good bog-rolls near you. Share and Enjoy!
